11th October marks International Girl Child Day; launched by UNICEF; to raise voice for the needs and demands of young adolescent girls. This year we stand together to chant “My voice, our equal future”, to empower girls to assert their power, strength, and courage to be the pioneer of positive change.
PODA celebrated the International Girl Child Day 2020 in 2 districts Jhelum and Chakwal by conducting 3 activities with the girls from 10 different rural-villages in Chakwal. PODA is determined to continue the inclusion of girls in the political process and make then the agents of change.
The activities included:
- PODA facilitated the registration the birth of the girls under the age of 12; who had not been reached before, on 8 th October 2020.
- Distribution of B-forms to 62 girls in village Daiwal tehsil Sohawa district Jhelum.
- Teaching the process of vote registration and voter verification, guided by PODA team and election commission of Pakistan.
- Session with the students of University of Chakwal on the importance of the right of girl’s right to education.
- Highlighting the need of public transport, quality health facilities, educational institutions with labs, and the recreational sports and play areas for girls.
