On Wednesday 10th February 2021, PODA organized a free legal aid camp for rural communities in Tehsil Chakwal of District Chakwal at village Nara Mughlan area. The purpose of this day-long activity was to provide legal advice to villagers so they are able to understand the legal issue related to their problem and are able to decide which would be the best way to proceed with a specific problem.
The camp was held from 11 am to 5 pm. More than 50 women came to get legal counseling during the day. Majority of their problems related to violence against women, inheritance, and family-related problems. Some problems did not need litigation and could be resolved by approaching a certain government office or by submitting an application for help. A few cases were actually about making corrections in ID cards or updating CNIC for which PODA team guided the women on how to update their CNICs. Some cases were eligible for applying to Ehsas program so PODA team helped the women to apply. A few cases that actually needed litigation were referred to local probono lawyers who are part of PODA network. The community appreciated the assistance provided by PODA. The Mobile Legal Aid Camp is a regular activity of PODA in rural areas. The next two camps will be held in Chakwal city on 8th March and in village Lalliani, district Sargodha on March 24th.
