SATURDAY, 25 May 2024, Tehsil Pindigheb , District Attock, Punjab: PODA team conducted a full-day training of 30 Nilkah Khawan/Marriage Registrars at Municipal Administration Hall facilitated by Assistant Commissioner, Mr.Noor Zaman and his team. A number of lawyers, government officials and journalists attended. The participants unanimously endorsed that the minimum legal age of marriage for girls should be increased from 16 to 18 years in Punjab. The training reinforced the critical role of Nikah Khawan in curbing child marriages to protect girl’s right to education and health. This training was part of PODA’s province-wide project to “Reduce Early Marriages to Enhance Gender Equality”, that is supported Royal Norwegian Embassy in Islamabad.
Advocate Khawaja Zahid Nasim, Advocate Hifza Bukhari and Gender Expert Ms. Nabeela Aslam conducted the training. A training manual prepared by PODA was used to facilitate the hands-on training in Urdu.
