Attock, October 2024: To combat child marriages in Punjab and observing the World Girl Child Day, PODA organized a special event at the Government Girls High School in Dhalian City, District Attock, with over 150 students participating. The girls engaged in a drawing competition that enabled them to express their aspirations for higher education and voice their concerns about the lack of a college in their community. Their artwork reflected their “Vision for the Future” and their desire for education to fulfill their dreams.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Ms. Uzma said that extreme poverty in the area and family pressures often prevent students from continuing their education, further exacerbating their economic challenges. She appreciated PODA for its initiatives to engage girls through a variety of activities specifically tailored for girls’ schools to continue their education which is a constitutional right.

The event also featured a visit from Ms. Benish Aziz, a professional lawyer, who provided valuable insights and guidance on pursuing a career in law—a field where women’s representation is still lacking. As a role model, she inspired the students to pursue their aspirations. This activity was supported by the Norwegian Embassy in Islamabad. The activity was facilitated by PODA woman leader, Ms. Shazia Noureen.

This year’s theme for the 2024 International Day of the Girl, as designated by the United Nations, is “Girls’ Vision for the Future.”
