Wednesday 27 November 2024 – Multan: The participants of a seminar on gender-based violence (GBV) at the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) agreed to address the issue and promote awareness about women’s rights.
The seminar was organized under Potohar Organization for Development Advocacy (PODA) Multan office to address the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) under the 16-Days of Activism campaign at the Social Welfare Department of the BZU Multan.
The key speakers at the event were Ms. Umme Farwa, Additional Director Social Welfare, Pakistan Baitul Mal, Mr. Safdar of District Education Office Multan, Silwat Shafi from Violence Against Women Centre, Mahi, Transgender Activist and Officer from Tahafuz Center Multan, Ms Moazma Hasnain, Advocate High Court, Aneela Ashraf, Journalist and Representative of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Dr. Aisha, Population Welfare Department, Mehak Butt, PODA Women Leader, Mr. Ijaz, Head Department of Sociology, and Mr. Kamran Ishfaq, Professor of Dept. of Sociology.
The speakers focused on the issue of gender-based discrimination and violence against women. Representatives from various civil society organizations and students attended the event in large numbers. They called it a crucial and informative event that highlighted the importance of addressing GBV and promoting awareness about women’s rights.
