Thursday 25 July 2024: A meeting with influencers was held at the Baldia Hall of Tehsil Municipal Administration, Attock, where a significant number of district influencers gathered. They unanimously passed a resolution supporting PODA’s demand to raise the minimum age of marriage for girls to 18 years. The participants emphasized the urgency of expediting the legislative process to amend the law, thereby protecting young girls’ rights to education and health. “Only education guarantees a dignified life and safeguards girls against all odds, disasters, and ordeals,” said Tehreen Shiekh. She shared a personal experience, saying, “My mother was married at the young age of 14, and I felt the pain as her life seemed to freeze at that point. Her mental and emotional development remained stagnant, and she was unable to move beyond that phase,” she said. The participants also highlighted the importance of revising the school curriculum to ensure gender equality from all perspectives, with a focus on practical knowledge.
