The day-long Training of Trainers for “Building the Capacity of Community Women Leaders to Promote Votes without Violence” was organized by PODA organization in Peshawar.
Mr. Saeed Ahmad Khan, Regional Election Commissioner Peshawar shared that special measures have been taken by ECP to enhance women’s political participation and representation. He said the Election Commission has launched a CNIC/Voter Registration Campaign to decrease the gender gap in the Electoral Rolls by increasing registration of women as voters. Women must be aware of pre and polling day requirements for effective participation and monitoring in general elections said by Advocate Ms. Rukhshanda Naz, Provincial Ombudsperson Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Advocate Khawaja Zahid Nasim also spoke at the event and explained different aspects of elections laws and its link universal standards of free and fair elections. He explained Election Act 2017 ensures strict compliance on increasing the political participation and representation of the marginalized groups including women, persons with disabilities, transgender citizens and minorities.
