The Third series of training workshops was organized by PODA in Islamabad for 20 women from 18 districts of Pakistan. The four-day training included intensive sessions on the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). One full day was devoted to the application of digital media tools for the promotion of Human Rights in Pakistan.
Ms. Tanveer Jehan, Executive Director, of the Democratic Commission for Human Rights (DCHD), a master trainer brings her extensive experience in human rights advocacy her session was on Communication Skills for Women’s Rights Advocacy and a workshop on UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
Mr. Tahir Sikandar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rawalpindi his session was on how to work with the Police on Women’s Protection Issues. Additionally, he facilitated a session on Time Management Skills for Human Rights Defenders.
Ms. Tanzeela Mazhar, Journalist, G-TV Islamabad a master trainer guided participants through a session on Using Digital Media for the Promotion of Women’s Human Rights.
Advocate Atiqu-r-Rasool, Lahore High Court with his legal expertise, conducted a session on Pro-Women Laws and provided awareness on how to work with the police and courts on cases related to Violence Against Women (VAW).
The participants also visited the Supreme Court Bar Association and Museum in Islamabad and women’s police station and the Tahafuz Centre in Rawalpindi. The training participants included university students, social mobilizers, journalists, community activists, teachers, health workers, and representatives of community groups. The ToT was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. At the end, the participants received certificates from Mr. Vaclav third secretary of the Czech Republic embassy.
