11 MAY, PODA – Islamabad Team accompanied by Advocate Khawaja Zahid Nasim and Advocate Supreme Court, Hifza Bukhari conducted a consultative session with the Members of the District Bar Association Attock in which the participants unanimously supported the legal amendment to increase minimum age of marriage of girls to 18 years. The President of the Bar Association, Rizwana Raja – 1st woman president – issued resolution on behalf of of the bar. She also signed a letter of understanding to collaborate further to end child marriages. The session was organised under the project Reduce Early Marraiges to Enhance Gender Equality funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Islamabad. PODA awarded the Bar and the President of Bar with Shields of Honor for their impactful support to expedite the process to introduce the legal amendment in the Child Marraige Restraint Act 2015 – Punjab to align minimum age of marriage of girls to 18 years.
