PODA to Launch 16 Days of Activism Campaign

Against Gender-Based Violence

Potohar Organization for Development Advocacy (PODA), a leading women’s rights organization in Pakistan, working with women leaders throughout the country to end gender-based violence. Joining forces with women– from teachers, women farmers, and health professionals to community and business leaders across the country, PODA is organizing a seminar in Islamabad to launch 16 Days of Activism from 24the November to 10th December. The seminar will highlight the link between education, peace and ending gender-based violence. Following the launch, PODA will facilitate Lead Mentors from all over Pakistan to organize activities throughout the 16-Day Campaign.

Background: 2015 marks the 24th year of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign globally. Over the years, participation in the Campaign has included over 5,478 organizations, policymakers, governments, UN agencies and countless individuals from over 180 countries. Many issues have been discussed, such as racism, sexism, and cultures of violence along with calls for the implementation of human rights obligations. PODA’s upcoming campaign is aligned with this year’s theme “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All”.
